Satellite internet for hotel opening

Project scope
Cloud & Network Infrastructure

Lyvinn planned to open a new hotel with a modern, flexible concept including a co-working space. The IT infrastructure was designed from the start as a high-performance fibre-based network environment. At the planned launch date, however, no active fixed-line connection was available.

The originally commissioned fibre connection was delayed by more than 20 weeks due to staffing shortages at providers and authorities. Without stable internet connectivity, the hotel faced postponing its opening and six-figure revenue losses due to non-functioning critical systems including PMS, payment processing, VoIP telephony, and guest WiFi, as well as severe limitations in the co-working area. Provisional LTE solutions with fluctuating bandwidth and unstable performance were not viable.

The hotel needed an available, immediately deployable solution with sufficient bandwidth for concurrent guest and operational processes.Implementation followed clearly defined steps:

  1. Requirements analysis and bandwidth planning: DaPhi determined concurrent bandwidth requirements for guest WiFi, PMS systems, payment gateways, VoIP, and internal back-office processes
  2. Integration of satellite connectivity into existing network architecture: The Starlink antenna was positioned strategically on the roof and integrated into the structured network environment
  3. Traffic segmentation and prioritisation: DaPhi implemented VLAN structures and quality-of-service rules to prioritise business-critical applications over guest traffic
  4. Remote management and monitoring: Through central monitoring from Berlin, DaPhi continuously calibrated and monitored the connection. Automatic alignment of the phased-array antenna ensured stable connections with low latency
  5. Scalable transition architecture: The solution was designed so the later fibre connection could be integrated as the primary line and satellite connectivity retained as backup

This marked DaPhi's first complete hotel deployment using a low-Earth-orbit satellite network as a production operating environment.

Damit realisierte DaPhi erstmals eine vollständige Hotelanbindung über eine Low-Earth-Orbit-Satellitennetz als produktive Betriebsumgebung.

The results were technically compelling:

  • Immediately available bandwidth in the three-digit Mbit/s range
  • Stable latency below 50ms
  • 100% operational capability of all business-critical systems
  • Scalable architecture with dual-WAN redundancy

Through consistent integration, DaPhi enabled Lyvinn to open on schedule while preparing for future scaling.
